First VM Deployment#
This guide explains what a virtual machine (VM) is and walks you through deploying your first VM on the myDelska Cloud Platform in a few minutes.
Prerequisites#
Before deploying a VM, make sure you have:
- A registered myDelska account — see Registration.
- A Workspace with sufficient credit — see Add Payment Methods.
- An SSH key for secure remote access (recommended).
What is a virtual machine (VM)?#
A virtual machine is a virtualized IT resource that works like a physical server. It runs on shared physical hardware but is created and managed entirely through software, which enables remote deployment, management, and maintenance.
Why choose a virtual machine?#
Virtual machines are more cost-effective, reliable, and flexible than physical servers. You can increase your VM’s resources at any time without significant investment or downtime, and the platform ensures operational continuity and availability regardless of the underlying hardware.
Why choose a preconfigured VM plan?#
Preconfigured VM plans keep your project affordable: you don’t need to buy additional software or over-provision resources you won’t use. The VM selection menu offers a range of ready-made plans — pick one, and your VM is ready to deploy right away. You can always upgrade the plan later as your workload grows.
How to create a new VM in myDelska#
To create a new VM, follow the steps below:
- Click New Service in the top-right corner and select a VM.
- Choose the Region.
- Select the CPU type (Regular or High Performance).
- Pick an Operating System (Linux distributions or Windows Server).
- Choose a VM Plan (you can upgrade it later).
- Configure Network Options (Public and/or Private).
- Select an existing public SSH key or upload a new one.
- Enter a Password or copy the generated one (used for console-only access).
- Set the number of VMs to deploy.
- Specify the Time Zone and Hostname (see hostname requirements).
- Review the setup and pricing, then click Deploy.
When deployment completes, your VM appears in the Dashboard with its status and IP addresses. Ready to start? Open myDelska and deploy your first VM.
Please note: If your Balance does not cover the deployment, the button shows Pay and Deploy — you will be asked to add funds before the VM is deployed.
You can create up to 10 virtual machines per Workspace — the total includes stopped, non-deleted, and blocked VMs. To deploy a machine, your balance must cover the full monthly subscription amount, but billing is hourly, and the remaining balance can be used for other machines or services. To raise the limit, see Instance FAQ.
Next steps#
- Connect to your VM with SSH
- Connect to your Windows VM via RDP
- Set up backups for your VM
- Configure firewall rules
- Add extra disk storage
- Set monitoring alerts
